It wasn’t that long ago, about
2 years, when Apple decided to move away from supporting Flash. This time Adobe is better prepared as
Microsoft has announced last week that its new mobile Window operating system
will not support Adobe’s Flash. To
compensate for changes in the market, Adobe has reduced its Flash operations,
worked to integrate technology from the competition and is offering alternative
packaging methods for Flash on mobile devices.
In November 2011, Adobe stopped work on development of Flash for tablets
and smartphones. According to Danny
Winokur, VP of interactive development, Adobe has been “working collaboratively”
on Windows 8 with Microsoft, and the company knew of the coming changes. Unlike previous versions of Windows, the new OS
will no longer support “plug-ins” that run other software. As the
market has evolved, Adobe has developed the new Adobe Air with redesigned Flash
content for mobile devices. In addition,
Adobe is offering more products with HTML5 compatibility, which is the latest standard
adopted by Apple.
