SOASTA, a six year old company
based in Mountain View, California, is announcing its plans this week to update
it CloudTest Platform to make it possible for developers to automated testing of
their iOS and Android apps. In an interview with Information Week, Tom Lounibos, SOASTA CEO indicated that the
human-technology interfaces has moved well beyond traditional keyboard
keystrokes, to inputs based on touch and gesture interactions. SOASTA’s TouchTest technology captures interactions
on both iOS and Android devices in record and playback mode to allow developers
and publishers to have automated feedback on mobile app performance. The CloudTest Platform is well suited to
testing mobile devices says Lounibos which require testing "new forms of
interaction and movement that have been impossible to test with traditional
tools."
Proper testing of mobile apps
is important in isolating and eliminating technical and usability flaws. The mobile app is closely associated with
the brand that it is supporting, so it is important to simulate a large number
of users. Lounibos has a history of
doing large scale testing dating back to 2002 when he was involved a previous
start-up called Dorado when it was trying to test an online loan system that
would support 100,000 users. It was difficult to do accurate testing
because it would have taken about 1000 servers. Now with the cloud, large scale testing has
become feasible and much more affordable than what was possible
previously. Lounibos says that SOASTA
CloudTest and CloudTest Lite are capable of capturing and testing end-to-end
touch-based and gestures in a way that is more accurate than optical tracking
of monitoring app code variables. SOASTA
is offering two low cost starter kits, CloudTest iOS Lab and CloudTest Android
Lab for test teams.
